(Below you will find a list of the home connection programs we use in our classroom. True learning occurs when students are able to apply their learned knowledge outside of school. The activities below will help you to reinforce the new ideas we are focusing on in kindergarten. Thanks in advance for your help with these projects! If you would ever like more ideas for academic activities to do at home with your child, please let me know. I would be more than willing to help you brainstorm ideas to reinforce our kindergarten skills.
"Round Trip" Folder: Each day your child will be bringing home a "Round Trip" folder filled with projects from the day and other important information. Please be consistent in checking the folder and returning it to school each morning. The folder provides a great opportunity to communicate with me. Each morning the folder will be put in a basket for me to look through. You can be sure notes are getting in my hands when they are put in the folder.
Digital Newsletter: Each weekend, I will email a digital update from our classroom. If you don't have access to the internet, a paper option will be sent home. More info to come!
Curriculum Home Links: In Friday's "Round Trip" folder, there will be optional activities for the kindergartners to complete at home. These activities will relate to what we are studying in kindergarten. These papers do not need to be returned to school. On occasion, there will be a special project that I would like the kindergartners to complete and return to school. I will always make special note of that in the newsletter and folder.
Red Home Connections: Beginning mid-year, students will come home with a red "homework" sheet on Mondays. Please complete, sign, and return to school. This quick check will give you a glimpse at grade level expectations and show you what we are working on at school.
Razzle Dazzle Readers: This all school reading initiative allows you to keep track of your child's reading at home throughout each week. Our goal is for each kindergartner to read 10 books per week. A Razzle Dazzle recording sheet will come home each Monday. The Razzle Dazzle Reader sheet from the week before needs to be returned on Monday of each week. Click this link for a Razzle Dazzle Sheet in case you misplace yours!
On the Road Readers: Mid fall, we will start sending home a colored reading tote bag. Some enclosed books will be read alouds from our book center. These will most likely be books you will read to your kindergartner. Other books will be those from your child's book basket. These books will be books at your child's reading level and ones your child will read to you. When the tote is returned, new books will be sent home. This important home connection will help your child become a strong reader in kindergarten!
Mystery Guest Reader: We look forward to welcoming in family guest readers into our classroom again this year. This could also be gone via Google Meet if that is a better option for you. At the beginning of the day, the students are just told "It is a Mystery Guest Reader day!" It is a secret as to who the guest is until they appear. The kids love the suspense! We would love to have you! Brothers and sisters, moms and dads, neighbors, grandpas and grandmas......all are welcome! Thanks for helping to foster a love for reading in children. **Stay tuned for more info! :)
Family Nights: Look for info coming home about a fall Explore K Night and a winter Family Reading Night.
Beach Buddy Blog: Check out our Beach Buddy blog at www.kindergartenbeachbuddies.blogspot.com for updates on our classroom adventures.
Seesaw: We will use Seesaw as a texting service to share important reminders about our class. Seesaw is also a digital journal where we will share our learning and thinking with you.
